Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about booking your South African safari adventure

What is the best time to visit Kruger National Park?+
The dry winter months (May to September) are ideal for wildlife viewing as animals gather around water sources. However, summer (October to April) offers lush landscapes and excellent bird watching. Each season has unique advantages!
What are the Big 5 animals?+
The Big 5 refers to lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhinoceros. These animals were originally termed 'big five' by big-game hunters due to the difficulty and danger involved in hunting them. Today, they're the most sought-after species for safari viewing.
How far in advance should I book my safari lodge?+
We recommend booking 3-6 months in advance, especially for peak season (June-September) and school holidays. However, we can often accommodate last-minute bookings depending on availability.
Are safari lodges in Limpopo and Mpumalanga malaria areas?+
Some safari areas in northern South Africa are in low-risk malaria zones, particularly in summer months. We recommend consulting with your doctor about prophylaxis. Many lodges also provide mosquito nets and repellents.
What should I pack for a safari?+
Essential items include neutral-colored clothing (khaki, beige, olive), sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses), binoculars, camera with zoom lens, insect repellent, and comfortable walking shoes. Lodges typically provide amenities like soap and towels.
Do you arrange transfers from the airport?+
Yes! We coordinate reliable transfers from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg or Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport to your chosen lodge. We work with trusted partners to ensure safe, comfortable transportation.
Are safaris suitable for children?+
Many lodges welcome families and offer child-friendly activities. However, some lodges have age restrictions for game drives (typically 6+ years) for safety reasons. Contact us to find the perfect family-friendly lodge for your needs.
What's the difference between Kruger National Park and private game reserves?+
Kruger National Park is a public park with self-drive options and more affordable accommodation. Private reserves offer exclusive experiences with off-road driving, night drives, walking safaris, and luxury lodges. Both offer excellent Big 5 viewing.
What meals are included at safari lodges?+
Most lodges operate on a full-board basis, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks during game drives. Many also include local beverages and selected wines. We'll provide full details when you book.
How do I get to lodges in Limpopo and Mpumalanga?+
Most guests fly into Johannesburg (OR Tambo) and drive approximately 4-5 hours, or fly into Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (much closer). We arrange transfers and can advise on the best route based on your lodge location.
What is your cancellation policy?+
Cancellation policies vary by lodge and season. Generally, cancellations made 60+ days in advance receive a full refund minus a service fee. Cancellations closer to arrival may incur higher fees. We recommend travel insurance for peace of mind.
Can I see all Big 5 animals on one safari?+
While sightings can never be guaranteed (they're wild animals!), the lodges we work with in Limpopo and Mpumalanga have excellent Big 5 populations. Multi-day stays significantly increase your chances of seeing all five species.
